What is happening to the world today?
LESSONS LEARNT FROM LORD OF THE RINGS
Today, I watched LOTR - the fellowship of the ring, again. It gave me lots to think about.
- Firstly, it spoke to me about what is happening to our world today. There was one part which was about mankind. Men without a leader, without hope, and the race is failing. I think this is true of the world we live in today. Don’t you think so? As the days of living in the UK go by, I’m exposed to more and more lawlessness in this world. WHATEVER HAPPENED TO THE WORD MORALITY? DOES THE WORLD STILL SEE THE BOUNDARIES OF RIGHT AND WRONG? Gay marriages are made legal; premarital sex is done by everyone, and you’re called weird if you’re still a virgin at 21; divorce is common; drinking and getting drunk is FUN; sleeping around and making out with friends are normal; the list goes on.
- Politicians of the 21st century are totally crap and useless. What they care about is that they can stay in their positions as long as possible. That they can take as much bribes as possible while up there, and pretending they’re working for the benefit of the nation. Remember the latest hoo-hah in the US about not using the word "MERRY CHRISTMAS" because it is politically incorrect? It just tells me how far politicians are willing to go, so that people will continue to vote for them. It is totally stupid and irritating. Politicians are AFRAID of the people. Instead of wanting the best for the society as a whole, they are making regulations that favours the people so that they get support. Greedy, selfish, ignorant.
- Though I’ve cursed politicians to the max, my ambition is actually to BE a politician. Sometimes I wonder why I would want to do that. Like Frodo in LOTR, I have a burden that is not easy to bear. A journey that will be difficult and full of obstacles. For Frodo, bearing the ring meant he couldn’t go home to the shire and enjoy a peaceful life, it meant a journey full of obstacles and dangers. But he still chose to bear it because he saw what would happen to the Middle Earth if he fails to destroy the ring. Sometimes I am afraid. I’m afraid that if I’m up there in the government office, I might end up like the rest of them whom I’m unsatisfied with right now. I’m afraid I might agree to send astronauts to space to make teh tarik and shut off the guilty feeling of wasting the public’s money which can be used for a better cause. I’m afraid that I will end up taking bribes and become a hypocrite. But I still choose this road. Because what if I do not try to make a difference, no one else might? If Frodo did not want to bear the ring, Middle Earth would have been destroyed. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not trying to be the saviour of the world. But the country needs someone to rise up and be different. If I can bring my country one step closer to what it can be, I’ll do it despite the difficulties I might face - if it means going against the tide to stand for what is right, if I’ll be cursed by other politicians, if I’ll be gotten rid of immediately by them. I want to eradicate poverty; I want to fight for justice; I want my country to be a better place for everyone.
Don’t look at me as if I’m an alien now. You might think I’m naive. But doesn’t everyone wish the world is a better place? Doesn’t everyone want peace and goodwill? Doesn’t everyone, in one tiny place in his/her heart, long for a perfect world? Longing for it won’t make it happen. Somebody needs to make it happen. I know I want to. And today, I’m challenging you to make it happen too.

=) first of all, i didn’t know you blog! secondly, never knew that you had wanted to be a politician (this is from a college/roomie’s p.o.v)! thirdly, i guess everyone do want a better place, a better world to live in. and i’m glad that you have such a strong determination to achieve that. To have everything laid out perfectly would be a Utopian world in my opinion; but it never hurts to try to reach as far as we can go.=) we all have our differences; be it in beliefs, morality or mentality. there are certain issues which you mention that i think the crux here is not to go against, but to understand. to have an open mind and to respect. Perhaps then, by relating, to solve.

We’ll just how the road leads us.As you can see I’m not a consistent blogger, that’s why many don’t know that I have a blog. When I have a burning idea or thought then I’ll have the urge to write.

I do not agree the way you view moral with a tinted glass. Religion certainly place a role in your life. However, moral should not be DEFINED by religion. Go back to Immanuel Kant, Plato, Socrates, these nobles man had came out with a set of thinking which outlined what moral should be. It is a set of ACCEPTABLE behaviour by thhe MAJORITY along with the TIME STREAM.
for instance homosexual.
As for us hetero, particularly those who are religiously inclined, Homosexual is definitely an indictable offence which endanger the human kind.
BUT we failed to assess the “RULES” to this perspective, or “SOURCES” which contribute in shaping this kind of thinking. First of all, i do not recall any part of the bible which DIRECTLY and PROMINENTLY condmen homosexual acts. MERE INTERPRETATION BY NON GOD BEINGS (eg, human) made homosexual illegal. though i am not homosexual, but i did a lot of research, along with my twin brother about religion.
We found out that the genuinty of the bible is not as accurate as the holy Quran. According to the long lost gospel of JUDAS, the so-called betrayal was “well-planned” by Jesus, so that he could sacrifice and scatter his unlimited love to us. BUT WHY is there a derived view on thhe same matter?
Christians know that bible are comprised of gospels of Jesus’s disciples which are HAND WRITTEN by the aprostles. Whoh are these aprostles? did JEsus or Lord Jehovah approved them? who are those who complied the bible? I believe in JESUS and JEHOVAH, but is it fair to ask me to believe in a book, compiled by US, the SINFUL human which describe god in a HUMAN way?
WHO ARE THOSE APROSTLES? ARE THEY QUALIFIED TO WRITE THE GOSPELS?
Whereas for the Muslim, it is different. I choose to believe Nabi Muhammad’s existance. The Quran was compiled during the ruling period of Khalifah Abu Bakar (if i am not wrong) and ALL THE WORDS by muhammad s.a.w were recorded by the rasuls into the quran. SO, basically the surahs are genuine and non poluted. there’s is a rule in the islamic society that if you want to learn about islamic, you have no way else but to go through Arabic language. this is a measure to ensure the originality as Muslims BELIEVE that the sinful human are NOT ELIGIBLE to do transcelation of the masterpiece of Gabriel and Muhammad.
I am very dissappointed that you have been very narrow minded in judging matters over MORALITY. Moral is of HUMAN, not of religion. You must care for the well-being of ALL the human, every human must be treated a like. every human deserve a good life. is about Life. Not about religion. thohse who are stereotype tends to mess these two up and judging the society according to their NARROW mind. YOU can critic the society in religion context. BUT WEE VIEN i found out that you had ABUSE the term “MORAL”. IN christianity, i truly believe that the world is changing and the people are further away from god. people commit SIN.
BUT IN MORAL is totally different….
anyway all the best

Hi Weevien,
I read with interest your post here.
In most of the points you voice out, I agree with you. But not all.
.
.
First, I believe not all the politicians are totally crap and useless. But most, I can say. Being in the political arena, in my opinion, sooner or later one will be transformed by the corruption world, IF, he is not firm in his stand, to be clean. I know of a local politician who claim to be clean. He is in AyerTawar, Perak, and in the opposition party. He is a Christian too, a friend of my church pastor. But, is he the only one? I believe there are more out there.
I salute you for having such an ambition. You can make a difference. I can say your power is too small, but also strong at the same time. Too
small because not many out there are having the same vision like you do. Strong because I believe God our Father will back you up! He is behind every bold and righteous one. So, as you journey through this road, make your commitment to never conform to the pattern of the political world, but be transformed and finally be an influencer to them (Romans 12;1,2). This is not easy, as you already know. I don’t want to hinder you, and discourage you, but things I’m going to say is: there will be bandits there waiting to put pressure on you, and perhaps, look for opportunity to take you out! Worst, frame you or kill you(assassination). Scared? I hope you are not. This is just the beginning. Jesus already assure us that there will be persecution if we want to follow Him. Be ready, really… really… ready!
.
.
You are right when you said the country needs someone to rise up and be different. But, WeeVien, don’t be discouraged when you find that there are no one supporting you. Don’t be discouraged when people disaoppiont you. For we do not put hope in people, but in the Trinity the Almighty One.
.
.
WeeVien, if you really become politician here, I’ll support you, in prayer and in action.
